The flag of Aruba consists of a Larkspur blue color with two thin parallel yellow lines stretching across the bottom and a four-pointed red star in the upper-left hand corner. The blue field represents peace, hope, the sky, the sea, and Aruba's future as well as its ties to the past. One of the two yellow stripes represents the flow of tourists to the island. The other yellow band symbolizes Aruba's rich mineral industry. In addition to sun, gold, and abundance, the yellow is also said to represent wanglo flowers. The red star has four points, representing the four cardinal directions. The star is thus a tribute to the many different countries of origin of the people of Aruba. Aruba also has 4 main languages, which are Papiamento, Spanish, English, and Dutch. The star resembles the island of Aruba itself because of the parallels between its red color and the red sand that comprises many of Aruba's beaches. Like Aruba, the star is surrounded by a sea of blue. It is said the white surrounding the star represents honesty and purity, and it surrounds Aruba like its white beaches.
